Walking in Fischbach

I am in Fischbach, on the shores of Lake Constance, visiting my daughter with my wife, and I have walked 42 miles in four days. I arrived early Saturday morning and my routine so far this week is simple: wake up, work, have lunch, then go on a three- or four-hour walk along the lake or in the hills above it. I don’t have cell service, so once I head out the door and am out of reach of WIFI, I am on my own. I look at a map before I go to construct a rough route, but after an hour or so, I end up following whichever path strikes my fancy. All the paths are interconnected and clearly marked, so the chances of getting lost are nearly nil.
One of the things I love about this area, which is like Switzerland in many ways, is that one can be on a quiet path within a few minutes of leaving home—no car needed. Small towns dot the hillside and lakefront, so you don’t need to take anything with you either, other than a few coins for a drink or snack at a local café. It makes wandering—my favorite kind of walking—easy and fun.
