Librarians are leaving the profession, the School Library Journal reported last year, largely because of the “the emotional cost of the culture wars.” I am not surprised by this, nor am I surprised by accounts of anonymous death threats that some librarians have received, which should be roundly condemned by all.

But the School Library Journal pretends that this particular battle is solely the fault of activist parents and that librarians are only leaving because of these parents. That’s simply not the case.
